Since 1936, HOME has been a showcase for New Zealand residential architecture: we feature homes designed to inspire, challenge and delight, by the country’s best architects. Each issue, we invite our readers in to these homes, telling their owners’ stories at the same time as explaining how these remarkable buildings came to be.

Whether it’s a casual beach house or a finely crafted house on a tiny urban site, a modernist classic or a contemporary masterpiece, we approach every house with a critical eye and a thorough enthusiasm for the power of architecture to improve people’s lives.

With a number of design awards under our belt, we also like to think the magazine
reflects the values of the houses we showcase – HOME is a highly collectible and beloved part of people’s lives, at once contemporary and timeless, thoughtful and stimulating.

Simon Farrell-Green

Simon Farrell-Green took over the editorship of HOME in 2016. An obsessive follower of architecture, he has contributed to the magazine for most of his career and his previous role was as New Zealand launch editor of Houzz. An award-winning journalist and writer, he began his career at Metro magazine before going on to work for glossy monthly magazines in New Zealand and around the world, including Monocle and UK Esquire. “But HOME is my first love,” he says. “I read it as a teenager, I’ve contributed to it for 15 years and now, I’m honoured to edit it.” He has also recently completed the world’s longest – and, naturally, architecturally designed – renovation.
